Bring the beauty of nature into your skincare routine.
It’s hard to find pure products in our modern world. There’s one main reason and that’s cost. Cheap, synthetic, dangerous chemicals have replaced pure ingredients in our everyday beauty products.
The list of acceptable toxic chemicals in the beauty industry is scary. In Canada, we follow guidelines listed under the Cosmetic Regulations (C.R.C., c. 869) laws. It’s a surprisingly lenient set of guidelines. There’s a Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist which prohibits the use of some big chemical offenders including formaldehyde, triclosan, selenium, nitrosamines and 1,4-dioxane - all of which are allowed in U.S. products.
Cosmetic manufacturers are prohibited by law from selling beauty products that pose a safety risk to users. Canadians are required to list every ingredient on the label of every cosmetic product they’re selling. This is so common now that consumers have stopped bothering to read every listed ingredient before buying and using it on their bodies!
The ingredients on products are getting longer and longer as more industry giants are adding harmful chemicals into their mix.
Europe has even more strict regulations on their cosmetic laws and are continually ameliorating their choices. European laws have restricted over 1,300 chemicals that have been proved to cause genetic mutations, cancers and other serious health risks. Again, the States have only banned 11 of such chemicals. You might be wondering why is matters what our southern neighbours are making their cosmetics out of, but the answer is right in front of you! Many of those companies sell/ship their products in Canada and across the globe. It’s more important than ever to keep your skin (our body’s largest and most absorptive organ) free from as much toxicity as possible.
How can we break up with toxic beauty products for good?
Find a local, small batch, natural beauty product maker! Not only is it more likely that they aren’t going to be using toxic chemicals in their products - it’s almost impossible. Those chemicals are hard to come by for the little guys. More often than not, artisan beauty makers are using completely natural and naturally derived ingredients that can be easily purchased. It’s time to rethink what you already have in your bathroom. Ask yourself - why did you buy each item? Was it because the packaging caught your eye or does it truly offer skin loving benefits?
Sometimes, our beauty routines need to be reassessed, simplified and upgraded. Chaga Beauty Co. not only uses natural skin-nourishing ingredients, but we also add healing compounds from a surprising place - our forests! Medicinal trees are a wonderful source of healing and cell-regenerating skin additions. There are several wonderful medicinal trees but our favourite, by far, is the magnificent Birch. Birch trees have the power to heal internally and externally! Conditions like eczema and psoriasis have been successfully treated with the active compounds in Birch tree and Chaga Mushroom for centuries. We’re so thankful to be able to offer Chaga Mushroom products to people that are in need of a natural & safe alternative.
